Want an adjustment?

I am always trying to be careful of the things that I say.  I don’t want to cause any  confusion.

Words are an important method of expressing our thoughts and ideas.

People often say they need an adjustment.  Then they schedule an appointment to see me. It’s important that people understand that the adjustment is performed after the determination of the need for the adjustment, that is,  the presence of a subluxation. So people are not scheduled for an adjustment at my office, they are scheduled to be checked for subluxation and then adjusted.

Some of us Chiropractors like to use the word manipulation.  I try not to use that one.  I think that it does not convey what is happening with an adjustment.

The subluxation is a misalignment of a vertebra that causes  an interference to the expression of the innate intelligence  of the body.  Chiropractic recognizes that the body is smart and it has the ability to determine the exact position of each part of the body, including the vertebra. So when I perform an adjustment, I am using my educated intelligence (I touch, I feel, etc.) to apply the most accurate force to the subluxations. Once that adjustment is made, it is the person’s body that makes the correction through their own innate intelligence.

It is a very specific process, but also very gentle.

How can a Chiropractor help…

I have said it many times, “at Berman Chiropractic we do not treat pain.”  So many people suffering with pain do seek chiropractic care.  Secret … no matter the reason you come here, I will always be checking to see if you have a subluxation in the spine – a specific condition that only chiropractors are trained to locate, analyze and correct.

Remove the subluxation, allow the body to receive and act on the messages that the body relies on, the greater the possibility for achieving improved health.

The wisdom that your body already has within it, maintains you!  It has been in existence since the moment you were born.  Chiropractic teaches that a vertebral subluxation (VS) interferes with the transmission of that wisdom.

Whether you have a VS or two or more, only your chiropractor can determine.  Whether it causes the condition that you are seeking chiropractic care for is an entirely different question.  One thing for sure … if you have a VS you are not maximizing your ability to heal.

Ten Snow Tips

I just wanted to jot down a few words about the weather and its relationship to chiropractic.

Most of us recognize the relationship between chiropractic and snow.

Really?  I ask, rhetorically.

Well, there’s the idea of people who might slip in the snow and wrench their back.   Or the unfortunate auto accident.

These are situations that are real.   We chiropractors are all too familiar with them.

But!!!  I think that despite the incredible help people receive from chiropractic care,  as a result of these mishaps, the greatest benefit a patient, or practice member,  receives is the correction of subluxations.

Chiropractic has been very effective in the care of people who suffer with muscle strains (and many other conditions).  Chiropractic, in my my view, helps these conditions as a side effect.   I have seen people that came to me because they heard that chiropractors help with accidents.  I evaluate them, and often find some subluxations … which may or may not have been present before the injury.  As a chiropractor, I correct their subluxation(s) and the person improves.

They are not being treated for their injuries.  The practice member may have come to me because of the injury.   That examination may have uncovered vertebral subluxations (maybe as the result of the injury or maybe from the stress of life).  The most important thing is that the vs (vertebral subluxations) were corrected.   With everything within the nervous system optimally functioning, the body has the greatest chance to heal … whatever  needed to heal.

So, with that truth in mind, when shoveling snow or maneuvering around:

  1. Bend at the knees.
  2. Don’t try to fill the shovel,  know your limit.
  3. Take frequent breaks,  enjoy the beauty.
  4. If possible,  go out every few hours and shovel several inches instead of a foot.
  5. Ask for assistance from relatives,  neighbors and friends.
  6. Take your time.
  7. Watch where you step.
  8. Be careful that ice may be under the snow.
  9. Leave room between your car and the next, while driving.
  10. Expect the unexpected.

Confusing Choices

Choices

I just read an article that promotes a concept or philosophy that I have been trying to promote for a long time.

Too many choices are often confusing. It sometimes is better to be given less choices but with guidance and supervision.

In health care we, as patients, want to have the best care possible. With too many experts proclaiming their expertise, making the correct choice is no easy task.

One of the biggest attractions for my choosing chiropractic as a career was that it offered a fundamental need for every person. The need to insure that all systems within our body communicated with every other system.

Remember the telephone game?  Someone whispers something into the
next persons ear and the message is changed by the end. Not too funny if this is going on in the body when the messages are vital!

According to chiropractic philosophy and science, messages are blocked in the presence of a vertebral subluxation.

If you have a subluxation, the choice is simple. Get rid of it.

By making chiropractic care a part of your wellness program, the body can function better by improving communication of its messages. If the vital information is being communicated properly then your choices of what you need to do to be healthy becomes easier.

I like easy.
